How Does An Enrolment Scheme Work?

Our school operates an enrolment scheme based on the legislation outlined in the Education Act.  The home zone area for our school was negotiated with our neighbouring schools in 2001 and has been revisted regularly, to ensure it is meeting the needs of our community.

Our school generally only takes students in category 1, which is students who reside in the zone at the time of commencing school.  At times we will ballot for a specific year group, but in recent years this has been rare.

COMMUNITY SURVEY

Recently our Board undertook a community survey via our website.  The questions on the survey mirrored questions asked on our last survey in 2008 and the aim was to provide us with information to look at our next phase of strategic planning.

Can't Touch This

After all the damage and graffiti we have had around our school I have finally had a glimmer of humour from our pen bandits.

Getting Back to Blogging

It has been a while since I wrote on this blog and it is not from want of trying.  I am finding out that I am so far behind the techno ball, that I am out of the game.  How I wish I had been born a digital native and computers, cellphones and even remotes were part of my DNA.  How lucky our kids are!  I also wouldn’t mind knocking a decade or two off the birthday tally either.

Year 8 Graduation Speech

Your time up until now has shaped your personality, your actions and words have been the practice you have had which has made you as we see you today.  From here you will be faced with choices and opportunities, my advise to you is seize the opportunities, put your best and most energetic foot forward and make choices that spotlight your abilities and strengths.

Lets Work Together to Solve This.

This is a case of what goes up doesn’t have to come down, at least not this quickly! During the weekends and possibly evenings we have groups of kids on our roof ripping up the tiles and chucking them round. It is quite a regular occurrence now.   This photo doesn't really show the damage, if you get a chance have a look.

How many is Too Many??

Educating the primary school aged child in New Zealand has changed considerably in the last 30 years.  Gone are the days where you sit in your single cell classroom with one teacher for the entire time and they teach you everything for that curriculum year from maths to music.  They are uninspired by science, so science is not interesting, they can’t catch a ball to save themselves, so you never do P.E.

If You Can Read This, Thank A Teacher

I found this on a website and thought it apt to share.  I like it because it gets to the guts of what teaching is about and is something that many people who are not teachers could not understand.  It involves a group of people sitting around the dinner table…….

I am getting sick of this.....

I am starting to get annoyed. It takes a great deal to ruffle my feathers, however I would like to hear genuinely from our Minister’s mouth that there are a great number of schools in New Zealand doing a really good job!

When The Village People Meet the Graduating Class of 1993

If you get a chance check out the video under photos of the teachers uniform day.  Scroll right to the bottom and you will see a bit of hilarity!  Photos by Susannah and Michelle and production by Kate- that is why you wil not see any photos of the Senior Management,  although there is a school of thought that one was disguised as Queen Elizabeth, one as the ape and one as Lady Gaga!

Make sure you turn up the volume!!
