Milo Cup Cricket Round 1 Vs Drury Primary
On Tuesday 23rd February our Milo Cricket Cup team played their first round game against Drury Primary at Drury Sports Complex. The boys have been training under the guidance of two of our school parents Rob and Tutana Dickson since early February, and although as yet untested in a match situation, they boys were looking very sharp and keen to see what they could do.
The boys won the toss and elected to bat. The batting was opened by Captain Sambit Patra and Ben Mata who put together a great opening partnership of 72. Eventually Ben was dismissed for 32 but Sambit went on to bat for nearly the entire innings and amassed a top score of 74, a fantastic captain's knock! The other notable batsmen was Callum Makatoa who managed to score his half century in the last over, most of which was achieved through fours to the boundary. Eventually the boys saw out the innings with a total of 229/6
The Gardens started out with a hiss and a roar with Hayden Dickson clean bowling their opening batsman in the 2nd over. From here tho Drury came out firing and their Captain, Roy, was hitting us to the boundary at will scoring his 50 in a very short time. Fortunately, an excellent piece of wicketkeeping from Josh Turner saw their main scorer run out and from here The Gardens boys were able to take control of the match.
The depth of talent in TGS side was evident in the tight bowling and fielding from all members of the team with notable bowling performances by Hayden Dickson 4/25 and Ben Mata 3/36.
