Physical Education
Since 2008 Physical Education/Physical Activity (PE/PA) has taken a new direction at The Gardens School. With the appointment of a Sports Co-ordinator, PE/PA is now a specialised subject that focuses on learning Fundamental Skills with specific sports coaching.
WHY CHOOSE US?
• Each class is timetabled weekly for Fitness, Physical Education and Team Sport. PE alone is a 45 minute lesson taught by the specialist teacher. All PE/PA lessons are levelled and based on structured Learning Outcomes.

• We use the SwimSmart programme which is supplemented by in-school Water Safety sessions. In addition, our Years 3/4 also participate in the CommunitySwim programme.

• Cross Country is an annual school event as well as a bi-annual fundraiser. In 2008, our TGS Golden Circle Cross Country Fun Run saw us raise $6,000.00 towards our new school sports uniform, sports gear and storage upgrade.
• Every alternate year we participate in either the Jump Rope for Heart programme or GymSport. We recently raised over $5,000.00 for the National Heart Foundation - which just goes to show what kind of school we are! ☺ Our school gymnastic programme at GymSport also builds on fundamental skills and is fun, challenging and run by specially trained staff.

• We work alongside Counties Manukau Sport to provide a well-rounded PE/PA programme across the school. Within a year, we achieved the ActiveMark ActiveSchools Bronze level in 2008, and are now looking forward to achieving the Silver and Gold levels soon.
• Our sports teams always represent our school well at the MPSSA (Y4-6) or Central Counties (Y7/8) competitions. We can proudly say our reputation precedes us! We think our successes are based on the simple equation of: Enthusiastic Students + Crazy Coaches = Great Results!

• Our House Captains run an Inter-House games competition on a weekly basis. This encourages team-work, sportsmanship and school spirit - not to mention the bonus of adding points towards winning our much-coveted House Cup!
• Every term, Staff and Students (representative teams) go head-to-head in a variety of games for bragging rights over the “We are the Champions” title. This is an on-going battle for a title which has been held by Staff for three years running now! See video menu for some of the action.
