In the short time I have been at The Gardens School, the hard-working students and staff have impressed me. Everyone that I have met has been very welcoming and friendly. I came into teaching after previous experience in nursing, horti-culture and working as a teacher aide. We live on a small farm with lots of wildlife – chickens, one duck, one turkey, three dogs and numerous cattle. Our children (actually young adults now!) are scattered all over New Zealand – one in Palmerston North, one in Otgao, one still living at home and the youngest finishing his secondary schooling at King’s College.
Personal highlights in my life include completing an Outward Bound course, helping build schools and hospitals in Nepal and working for one summer in Antarctica.
Over the past two weeks I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Year 7 and 8 students make the most of the opportunity to learn while being in the “great outdoors” at Awhitu.
