Our Associate Principal – Kate Gifford


I was born in Wellington but moved to Auckland at age 6, living "out West" in Titirangi. I went to school in Central Auckland and after attending Auckland University and the old Auckland College of Education, I began my teaching career at Mt Eden Normal Primary School. In 2004, I made the move south and joined The Gardens School staff and have been very happy here ever since! In 2005, I completed my Postgraduate Diploma in Education, became the Staff Rep on the Board of Trustees and also made the move from teaching Juniors to teaching Intermediates! I thoroughly enjoy the challenge of preparing our school leaders for their transition to high school. It's also just plain fun, teaching young people who are developing their own views and opinions about life! 
There is never a dull moment in teaching and highlights have to include omelette making, school productions, science fair, mathex and anything where Rimu wins! When I'm not at school I am kept on my toes day and night by a very active 8-month-old daughter, whom I am quickly learning is much harder to control than a class full of pre-teens!
I'm looking forward to a year of new challenges and consider myself lucky to be part of a great team at TGS!
