KAY VINCENT – TEAM LEADER
(MAUNGAKIEKIE – Y7/Y8)
I grew up on a farm in Kariaotahi, attending the local school (20 pupils) then Waiuku Primary School, boarding school, Waiuku College & North Shore Teachers College.
I have taught mostly Years 7 and 8 in Northcote, Pukekohe & around Waiuku district. I love teaching Spanish & last year spent an amazing month in Argentina on an AFS-Ministry of Education Spanish Immersion programme. My most embarrassing language moment was saying the McDonald’s slogan “Me encanta” (“I’m loving it”) instead of “Encantada (Pleased to meet you … “).
My husband, Mark, works at N.Z Steel & plays in a band in his spare time. Our son, Julian (19), plays the electric guitar & drums – loudly! – so our home is always full of music. Our daughter, Laura (23), works for Smokefree in Wellington. We have two lazy cats & four goldfish (there were five on Monday … ?!).
I’m looking forward to our team camp at Awhitu, especially because everyone has to ask for their food in Spanish – a great motivation for our students to speak the language. Hasta la vista!
