  Our Deputy Principal – Michelle McCarty


I grew up in Manurewa and attended some wonderful Manurewa schools back when it was not unusual to wake up in the morning to the sound of cows mooing in the distant Weymouth area!
I always wanted to be a teacher and still love learning about how kids learn best. After training to be a teacher at Auckland Teachers College in Epsom, my first teaching job was at Clendon Park School. I then taught at Hillpark School, Ardmore School and Jean Batten Primary School before becoming a mum.
I have three children and after my youngest son was born I completed an Early Childhood Diploma then returned to fulltime teaching at St Mary’s Primary School in Papakura then on to Conifer Grove School. I have been at The Gardens School since 2005.
 I have visited include USA, New Caledonia, Norfolk Island and Australia and as my children are now venturing to different and far-off lands, I am hoping to be able to visit them.
One of my favourite things to do is go walking along Kariotahi Beach. I love the wildness of this West Coast area and so does my dog Leo!
