Sepa Talaimanu
Year 4/Team Leader
PATISEPA TALA’IMANU-TEAM LEADER, (MAUNGAWHAU)
As a child, I often imagined what I would be when I grew up. I never wanted to do just one thing & if I were to identify myself with people or characters I was in awe of most as a child, then I wanted to be Janet Jackson, Princess Diana, Denise Cosby, Jessica Fletcher, one of Charlie’s Angels, Wonder Woman, Alexis Carrington & most of all, I wanted to be married to Kirk Cameron. Even so, I always knew I was going to be a teacher.
In reality, I was nurtured (or nudged) in the right direction by very faithful & humble parents, who taught me the value of education, by my aiga (family) who have always encouraged me to ‘be & do’ & by the teachers who made a difference. So the next time you ask your child “What do you want to be when you grow up?”… allow them a few moments to collect their thoughts.
I am married to a very patient husband & we have a 9-month old son who has big, beautiful brown eyes.
My primary school years were spent at: Mt. Carmel School (Meadowbank), St. Thomas’ School (Kohimarama) & Petone Central School (Lower Hutt). I then attended Epsom Girls’ Grammar School & Wesley College (yes, Jonah was there too), spent a couple of years at Massey University (Palmerston North) before transferring to the University of Auckland to graduate.
My first educational stintincluded running Special Needs programmes at Sutton Park School (Mangere), before teaching Years 4 and 6 at Papatoetoe North School - fully involving myself in the Performance Arts.
I am now in my fifth year at The Gardens School where I have taught Years 7 and 8, dabbled in the school productions, cultural group & sports coaching, before taking on the school-wide role of Sports Co-ordinator/PE Specialist.
I am now glad to be back in a Year 4 classroom & look forward to sharing many wonderful, new learning experiences with my class & the “M&M’s” (Maungawhau & Motutapu teams).
