TANYA GRIFFIN
P.E Specialist Teacher
I spent most of my childhood in Gisborne, Victoria (not NZ!), a small
idyllic country town with a creek running through the main street, snow in
winter & 40+ degrees in summer.
In my last year of high school my parents decided to move to Singapore
for work so I got to spend a fantastic year at boarding school in Ballarat
& ended up staying there to complete my teaching degree.
Due to my Dad's work in the airlines I got to spend my teenage & early
adult years in Hawaii & Singapore with day trips here & there to places
like Delhi, Agra, Los Angeles & Narita.
I decided to make the move across the ditch in 1998 as there was a glut
of teachers in Oz & a shortage here in NZ. I spent the first eight years
teaching at Pakuranga Health Camp – that was extremely challenging but
also very rewarding.
I then took time off from teaching to work as a Business Development
Manager for a security & IT company. After three years of selling my
soul for the ‘almighty dollar’, I realised how much I missed teaching &
working with kids & was lucky enough to be offered my dream job of
Physical Education Teacher here at The Gardens School where I get to
combine my love of sport & kids – best job in the world!
And to answer the one question I get asked by everybody who knows I'm
Australian... YES – I support The Wallabies, the Kangaroos, the
Diamonds, the Socceroos & any other team that represents Oz. My only
concession is that I DO support The Warriors & The Mystics!
